The United Nations at 75 and Beyond: Problems, Progress and Prognosis
Dear friends of the United Nations Association in Canada,
Following our Annual General Meeting, the Town Hall forum noted above is open to the public, and we encourage you to bring colleagues, friends and family or invite them come on their own, if you are unable to join us.
UN General Assembly President MarÃa Fernanda Espinosa Garcés, has noted that the 75th anniversary of the creation of the institution, which will take place in 2020, is a time for reflection as well as celebration. The UN has decreed the theme of its 75th anniversary in 2020 to be “The Future We Want, the UN We Need: Reaffirming our Collective Commitment to Multilateralism†and we’d like to hear what you think about the organization and its future. Please join us at our Town Hall forum to discuss your ideas, questions and thoughts on the future of the organization.
We hope to see you at this thought provoking event!

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS TO THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
The Nominations Committee is interested in the names of individuals wishing to stand for election at our Annual General Meeting for positions on the Executive Committee. The executive positions include President, Past President, Vice President(s), Secretary, Treasurer, and up to seven Members-at-Large. Each nomination should be submitted to the Nominations Committee by any two Branch members in good standing (i.e. on the records of the national office as having paid their annual dues) prior to the Annual General Meeting. Further nominations by any two members in good standing may also be presented at the Annual General Meeting, subject to the condition that nominees should be present at the Annual General Meeting or provide a dated and signed statement of their willingness to stand for election. Nominators should be prepared to speak about why they believe their nominee is a good candidate. Nominees themselves should talk with a member of Nominations Committee prior to the Meeting.
To make a nomination or to convey interest in being nominated, please contact Tara Andronek at firstname.lastname@example.org; if you do not have e-mail, you can phone and leave a message at 613-941-9288.
Note: Members in good standing as of ten days prior to the Annual Meeting are entitled to vote in the elections for the Executive Committee.
You do not have to be on the Executive Committee to contribute. There are many ways to contribute to the organization – large and small activities at different times of the year, and with varying degrees of responsibility. We are looking for volunteers to help us in six core areas of activity:
• “Research and Reporting†on the UN system and its activities globally;
• Organizing “Events†(on our own and in concert with like-minded groups) and liaison about the activities of other groups in the community;
• Working with “Schools†and other educational entities;
• “Communications†to publish a semi-annual newsletter, produce a more frequent series of e-bulletins, maintain our web-site, and cultivate the mass media;
• “Fund-raising†on a modest level; and,
• “Administration†including mailings and other periodic but essential tasks.
For more information on these core areas of activity, contact us at email@example.com or in person at the upcoming Annual General Meeting.
